Muscle is much denser than fat, meaning it is also more compact. When you build muscle, as you can see, it is much smaller and “tighter” than adding fat. So while the number on the scale might not change (or might even rise!) it will not look that way in a mirror. As you build muscle and lose fat, you will actually appear SMALLER.
